Principal Research Scientist / Engineer Job

Position Description
SRC is seeking is seeking principal research scientists and engineers to work in our Advanced Technology Initiatives Program. An SRC-funded strategic program that targets some of the most critical and challenging problems facing our customers and the nation, the ATI Program focuses on developing revolutionary advancements in critical challenge problem areas through research and innovative application of science and technology.
This position requires a creative, entrepreneurial individual with a very strong science or engineering background who enjoys the challenge of turning their ideas into new, leading edge technologies and capabilities and significant breakthroughs for SRC and our customers. Successful candidates will be responsible for establishment and leadership of a new ATI. Successful candidates will work on highly collaborative ATI project teams in a results-oriented, applied research and development environment. Successful candidates will also interact with subject matter experts and technology professionals from operational programs to identify and characterize problems, produce and demonstrate innovative solutions, and help to transition research results to operational programs.
Responsibilities
• Challenge problem characterization and conceptualization, developing technical approaches, research and experimentation plans, applied research and development, rapid prototyping and evaluation
• Establishment and development of project teams, project management
• Working with stakeholders and prospective customers, presentation of research and development at multiple levels, including technical, management and customer
Position Requirements
• Successful applicants must possess a doctorate (preferred) or master's degree in biological sciences, chemistry, computer science, computer / electrical engineering, imaging science, applied mathematics or physics and at least five years experience in an applied research and development environment
• Successful applicants must also possess excellent technical writing and oral presentation skills, and have the desire to work in a progressive environment where their creativity will be applied to real-world challenge problems
• Must have excellent oral and written communications, organizational and reporting skills, as well as great attention to detail
• Proven technical leadership and mentoring skills
